The original Vornado fans were built in Wichita, Kansas, in the 1940s and '50s by the O.A. Sutton Company, which has long-since retired. Turned-aluminium construction, innovative design and superb performance...these were the qualities that made Vornado the consumers' choice for decades.

In the mid 1980s, Michael C. Coup, a former physics instructor, aircraft systems analyst and fan aficionado, saw an unserved market in environmental comfort. He envisioned a line of high-style, high-performance, cost-effective products -- an alternative to run-of-the-mill, commodity-style imports.

In 1989, a new Vornado company launched its first whole-room air circulator, a significantly higher-tech version of the original Vornado fan. Vornado Air Circulation Systems, Inc. quickly became the leading designer, manufacturer, and supplier of air comfort products. Since 1989, the Vornado line has expanded to encompass more than 25 models across five distinct comfort categories including air circulators, Air Purifiers, whole room heaters, whole room humidifiers and oscillating fans – all bearing the Vornado brand, the most trusted brand in air comfort for more than 50 years.

Designing and manufacturing functions are performed in-house at Vornado’s 120,000 square-foot headquarters in Andover, Kansas. Vornado also is home to the Antique Fan Collectors Museum, featuring the most comprehensive collection of air moving devices in the world, including rare fans dating back to the mid-1800s. We invite you to visit the museum and our hometown of Andover, Kansas. Click on the links below to find out more about our city and state.

"I have both models (630B & VF20) and they perform far better than normal fans."
John Young

“…I expect to buy two more.  I want quality when I spend.  I know I get my money’s worth from Vornado.”
Mrs. J.W. Lang
Ft. Worth, TX

“…The styling of it (Vornado) is so far superior to other “fans” that I just had to buy it.  Congratulations on taking ‘fans’ into the 21st Century.  We loved it so much that we bought another one as a birthday present.”
C. Bailey
New York, NY

"I have been using a Vornado air circulator in my salon for about three months. I have found the Vornado unit to be extremely effective in this environment, as it improves airflow and allows fresh air from outside to be distributed throughout the area. I particularly like Vornado’s small size and lack of noise, and, being an upmarket salon, also its stylish appearance."
Gino Fossano
Melbourne, VIC

“We have six Vornados.  We swear by them.  In the past we tried different sizes of oscillating fans and none of them offered the air circulation your Vornados do.  We have turned them up towards the ceiling and they circulate the air in winter.”
G.H. Stammler
Salina, KS

“Your product is marvelous.  I couldn’t be more pleased with its performance and design.  I plan to recommend the Vornado highly to everyone.”
C. Van Hoek
New York, NY

“We use a Vornado by our register.  When customers are waiting, they comment on the cool air.  We cannot keep them in stock - it’s a great product and I’m very pleased with mine.”

Vornado is proud to house the Antique Fan Collectors Museum.

One of the first things ever done with an electric motor was to put a blade on it.   Here are just a few milestone fans that trace the history of fan technology and manufacturing, electric motor development and most of all, terrific styling.

This historically comprehensive collection of over 350 fans includes many rare and one-of-a-kind items...the oldest dating back to the mid-1800's.  The fans are on loan to the museum from private collectors.

The AFCA Museum is located at Vornado's headquarters, Andover, Kansas.

Vornado was at the Indy 500.

Vornado teamed up with Playa Del Racing for the 2005 Indy 500, sponsoring racecar No. 21.   Jaques Lazier drove the No. 21 Panoz/Toyota racecar, finishing the race in 16th place. The Playa Del Racing team relied on the exceptional power and rugged durability of Vornado’s Heavy-Duty Shop Fans to stay cool in their garage and pit before, during and after the Indy 500.

Japanese Greenhouses

Greenhouses in Japan use Vornado Air Circulators, with their Signature Vortex Circulation, to maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels.

Vornado Air Circulators are vital in helping these greenhouses grow premium produce, such as perfectly formed, unblemished melons or other fruit and vegetables, which are often given as extravagant gifts in Japanese culture.

Original Vornado Fans

In the 1950s, 1 out of every 3 fans sold in the United States was a Vornado fan.

Vornado as Art

The distinctive art installation, “Green Balloon,” in New York City by the architect and artist Yumi Kori consisted entirely of balloons, light, the breath of whoever visited the gallery and...Vornado Air Circulators.

Vornado Air Circulators were used to move the green balloons around the space. Like no other product, Vornado's Signature Vortex Circulation creates swirling, deep-penetrating currents of air that circulate and enliven all the air in a room. Vornado Air Circulators are widely recognized as the world's finest air circulators.
