History
The original Vornado fans were built in Wichita, Kansas, in the 1940s and '50s by the O.A. Sutton Company, which has long-since retired. Turned-aluminum construction, innovative design and superb performance...these were the qualities that made Vornado the consumers' choice for decades.
In the mid 1980s, Michael C. Coup, a former physics instructor, aircraft systems analyst and fan aficionado, saw an unserved market in environmental comfort. He envisioned a line of high-style, high-performance, cost-effective products -- an alternative to run-of-the-mill, commodity-style imports.
In 1989, a new Vornado company launched its first whole-room air circulator, a significantly higher-tech version of the original Vornado fan. Vornado Air Circulation Systems, Inc. quickly became the leading designer, manufacturer, and supplier of air comfort products. Since 1989, the Vornado line has expanded to encompass more than 25 models across five distinct comfort categories including air circulators, Air Purifiers, whole room heaters, whole room humidifiers and oscillating fans – all bearing the Vornado brand, the most trusted brand in air comfort for more than 50 years.
Designing and manufacturing functions are performed in-house at Vornado’s 120,000 square-foot headquarters in Andover, Kansas. Vornado also is home to the Antique Fan Collectors Museum, featuring the most comprehensive collection of air moving devices in the world, including rare fans dating back to the mid-1800s.
